The ABC’s of Overcoming Limiting Money Beliefs
Money is emotional.
We feel a rush of joy when we’re online shopping and the anticipation of receiving our package might be one of the reasons we get out of bed.
Positive feelings are not the only component when we talk about money. Our finances can frustrate us and make us anxious or even completely ignore looking at our bank account.
We even attach negative beliefs that most of the time have been ingrained by our family!
However, it’s never too late to tear down the limiting beliefs we have around money and improve our relationship with our finances.
Overcoming limiting money beliefs is a journey and it’s much easier said than done, so if you’re tired of feeling powerless when it comes to confronting your limiting beliefs, then here are the ABCs that have been helping me improve my money mindset.
ASK YOURSELF, “HOW IS THIS BELIEF SERVING ME?”
Growing up we absorb beliefs that have been repeated to us and we tend to adopt them as our own.
In the latest conversation I had on Ellas, my guest Isis Carus shared with me how she unconsciously developed a limiting belief from her childhood and developed the practice of accumulating her money. This ultimately prevented her from pursuing her goals.
The most common limiting money beliefs that have been ingrained in us are, “It’s hard to make money,” “I will always have debt,” “Money is the root of all evil,” or “I could never afford that.”
Take a moment to ask yourself how the limiting belief you’ve been holding onto has served you. Grab a notebook and pen, write down the consequences and the “benefits” that made you feel safe to hold onto.
Has it stopped you from investing in yourself to grow in your career?
Does it impact your relationships?
What did the belief make possible?
How did the belief shape the person you are today?
Once you’ve acknowledged how the belief has served you, it’s time to release it.
Crumble that paper and aim for your trashcan!
BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE
You are a chingona who is making an impact in your life and our community!
Don’t forget how powerful you are.
That confidence you bring to networking with other amazing mujeres and going after your passion so you can live the life you deserve should be at the same level when healing the relationship with your finances.
You already checked off step number one! Throwing away the limiting beliefs into the trash is the first step to take for you to move forward in your path.
Remember that improving your finances is a journey and like everything it takes practice.
However, you’re ready to make better money moves and when you witness how your decisions have been improving your life, your confidence is going to increase!
CREATE NEW BELIEFS
Now that you threw away those false beliefs, it’s time to rewrite empowering beliefs that fuel your soul and help you build your confidence.
It’s time for YOU to decide what’s going to help you take the best steps to move forward in your journey.
Let’s switch up those negative beliefs into empowering ones.
Instead of saying you’re not good at handling money say this, “I AM good with money!”
The emotions we feel when saying these empowering beliefs are the fuel we need to keep growing in our money journey.
Keep those empowering beliefs close to your heart, write them on a post-it and place them in front of your computer.
Help yourself in going forward by also having powerful mantras that will push you when you’re feeling stuck.
Here are two mantras that I love to use, “I am on the path to financial freedom,” and “My money-making opportunities are unlimited.”
Don’t give up on having a better relationship with your money. You deserve to feel pride, joy, and tranquility when you think about your money. Stay positive, you are not alone in this journey and we’re here to root for you when you throw away those limiting beliefs that have been holding you back.
