Providing a Latinx Lens in Film Criticism with Rosa Parra
SHOW NOTES
How do you provide your perspective in the space that you occupy?
In episode 65 of Ellas, I talk with Rosa Parra about providing her Latinx Lens in film criticism.
Rosa is a Chicana Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic, co-founder, and co-host of Latinx Lens (one of my favorite film podcasts). She is also a member of various critics associations and advocates for representation, diversity, and inclusion.
Latinx Lens is dedicated to highlighting Latinx representation and contribution in film and television while also being a platform for the Latina host to review all films through her Latina lens.
I’m so excited to share this empowering episode because I was able to combine my two loves: amplifying Latina voices and film!
Rosa shares with me the movies that inspired her to continue pursuing her science degree, sparked her interest to begin her film criticism journey and the one that pushed her to provide her much-needed Latinx lens in the industry.
We also talk about the page-and-a-half of Latinx representation in film and television that motivated Rosa to start Latinx Lens alongside Catherine Gonzales. Our community has been starving for Latinx representation, and the response to this podcast has been astounding!
Rosa talks about the positive response and how she had to push her own biases aside to give her critique and widen the spectrum of Latinx contribution in the film industry.
It’s time to unapologetically provide our Latinx Lens and support the Latiné figures who are paving the way to give us a positive representation on screen. Listen to today’s episode to know how you can be part of this change and what it takes to navigate this industry!
