In today’s episode of Ellas, I talk with Alea, one of my favorite singers who has brought joy to my life during these stressful times. Alea’s music brings me back down to earth and reminds me of really enjoying every step that I’m taking and to not dwell on the past or future.
We go DEEP in our conversation to talk about how Alea discovered the joy of living her journey one day at a time, choosing to become Alea on stage and selecting the best parts of her to become the inspiring women she is today who isn’t afraid to be an alborotada.
Alea is a progressive and pioneering singer-songwriter who delivers messages of love, connection, and Latinx empowerment. The Colombian born and raised artist from Barrancas, La Guajira is a graduate from Berklee College of Music and was recognized in 2016 by the city of Boston for her contribution to Latin Music.
After making her move to New York City, Alea successfully funded her Indiegogo campaign for her 2021 album Alborotá, rooted in feminism and Latinx empowerment. Alea was also selected to be part of Las Colombianas Editorial Spotify Playlist!
Alea also shares how important it is to creating music that fully represents her and makes her proud. One of the biggest components to enjoying your journey! She also shares how she was able to break the mold and take herself out of situations where abusive people stepped over her.
Our journey may be long, but that doesn’t mean we can’t truly enjoy every step we take to get to our goals. It also means we can grow and become stronger.
